Choosing Your Wedding Season in Cape Town

One of the first questions every couple asks us is when to get married. Cape Town offers something different in every season, and the right one for you depends on the mood you're after, the guests you're hosting, and the venue you fall in love with.

Cape Town's Wedding Seasons at a Glance

Our main working season runs through spring and summer, from October through to March and April. This is when our venues are truly at their best, and it's when the great majority of our couples choose to marry.

Summer Weddings (Nov-Mar): What to Expect

October through March, and into early April, is peak wedding season in Cape Town, and for good reason. The weather is moderate rather than harshly hot, and it isn't a humid heat, so guests stay comfortable even at the height of summer. February and early March bring the warmest days of the year. December tends to be the windiest month, worth keeping in mind for outdoor ceremony planning, though our venues and suppliers are well practised at working around it. This season showcases our venues at their absolute best: the colours, the light, the settings, and above all, the sunsets.

Shoulder Season Weddings (Apr-May, Sep-Oct)

Late April into early May brings beautiful days and cooler evenings, though this is also when the Cape Town rain typically begins. Rainfall tends to be at its highest from May through August. By September, the season turns again, bringing early spring days with lovely temperatures, cooler evenings, and gardens and surrounding landscapes coming back to life after winter. Shoulder season suits couples who want a softer, quieter version of Cape Town, without the height of summer's demand on venues.

Winter Weddings (Jun-Aug): Pros, Cons, and When It Works

We do plan winter weddings, though demand is lower than in summer. A winelands wedding styled for a beautiful indoor setting makes for a memorable, distinctive celebration. The main consideration for couples is guest experience beyond the day itself: winter is a quieter travel season, and many of the outdoor attractions Cape Town is known for, beaches, hiking, and picturesque outdoor sites, are less of a draw at this time of year. It's a lovely option for couples prioritising an intimate, atmospheric wedding over a full outdoor guest itinerary.

How Season Affects Venue Pricing and Availability

Our busiest months book up well in advance, so we always recommend securing your venue 12 to 18 months ahead to get the date and options you want. Pricing generally follows peak and off-peak season, summer versus winter, rather than day of the week; getting married midweek versus on a weekend typically doesn't shift venue or supplier costs.

Summer weddings lean beautifully into pinks, oranges, and yellows, tones that sit perfectly against the golden light and the settings of our favourite venues. For a cooler season palette, we love warmer hues, off-white, natural textures, burgundy, and neutrals, which bring a completely different but equally beautiful feel.
